Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today said Hong Kong lawmaker Leung Kwok-Hung was deported because he is a "troublemaker".

"We don't want troublemakers to come here breaking the peace.

"We know his intention of coming here and we also know his background and as such we refused him entry and deported him back," Khalid ( photo ) told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Khalid added that troublemakers are not welcomed in the country.

"I said before, those who intend to create trouble need not come here, we don't want you. We only welcome peace-loving people," he said.

Leung, who is better known by his nickname 'Long Hair' for his trademark silver mane, was deported this afternoon upon his arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Supposed to speak at a forum

On Tuesday, another pro-democracy activist, Joshua Wong , was deported soon after arriving at the Penang International Airport.

They were supposed to speak at a forum in Petaling Jaya tonight to commemorate the 26th anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre, a taboo topic for Beijing which censored all records of the incident in China.

Leung and Wong ( photo ) were key figures in a pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong last year dubbed the 'Umbrella Revolution'.

The mass rally which brought the streets of Hong Kong to a standstill for two months was to demand for direct elections.

The locals were upset at China's plan for Hong Kong people to vote for their chief executive only from a selection of candidates handpicked by Beijing.

Khalid had of Wong's deportation said it was to protect Putrajaya's relation with Beijing.

However, Putrajaya has instead come under criticism for bowing to Beijing's demands.
