Dare ministers to attack Dr M, Najib told

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must challenge his cabinet members to defend him against the negative allegations from Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said former minister Zainuddin Maidin ( photo ).

In his latest blog posting, he said by asking the ministers to quit , Najib would not know who genuinely supported him in dealing with 1MDB.

On the contrary, he said Najib must challenge them to step forward to counter attack Mahathir through the mainstream media.

He added that the ministers should emulate BN Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairperson Shahrir Samad and Malaysian Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) chief Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.

Zainuddin, who is popularly known as Zam, cited Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal as well as Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin as those who have not defended Najib.

"Najib appears to fight a lone battle in TV3 and the mainstream newspapers to counter Mahathir's ( photo ) attack and defend his leadership relating to 1MDB issues," he said.

"If only 'rubbish' are shown as supporting Najib, then the prime minister would drown in a rubbish dump," he added.

Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia reported that Najib had called on his cabinet members to resign if they disagreed with the 1MDB issue.

The call was made during last Friday's cabinet meeting.

The 1MDB imbroglio is a major thorn for Najib, who has come under increasing pressure from Mahathir to quit.
