Pelagus state assemblyperson George Anak Lagong, 55, is now in a stable though still critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Sibu District Hospital after an accident at Sebangkoi, about 10 kilometers from Sarikei town, at around 4pm yesterday.
According to his brother-in-law Nelson Janting, George was accompanied by his wife Sumi Janting, 50, and two sons when he lost control of his four-wheel-drive vehicle, and it plunged into a ravine.
“George ( photo ) sustained serious head injuries while his wife and one son suffered slight injuries. The other son escaped injury, though shaken,” he said when contacted in Sibu today.
He said Sumi and her son were then taken to the Sarikei District Hospital for treatment while George was sent by ambulance to Sibu, where he underwent a four-hour surgery inmediately on arrival.
George won the Pelagus seat as an Independent candidate in the 10th state election in 2011, and later joined Sarawak Workers Party (SWP), before joining the new Barisan Nasional-friendly Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) party, but then left it after a while.
According to Nelson, George and his family were on their way from Kuching to Bintulu for his Gawai Dayak family reunion in his house there.
