DAP's Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer who is facing two charges of sedition had his cases fixed on Jul 2 in the Sessions Courts in George Town today.

He was charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act for allegedly uttering the word "celaka" against Umno in the Penang legislative assembly on May 20 last year.

He was charged again for allegedly uttering the same word against Umno in a ceramah on May 21 last year in Island Glades during the Bukit Gelugor by-election.

In the first case, Rayer's lawyer S Raveentharan asked that the matter be postponed sine die (indefinitely) until the Federal Court decides on law lecturer Azmi Sharom's ( photo ) case.

Azmi is challenging the colonial era Sedition Act, and the apex court has yet to decide on his case.

However, Sessions Court judge Zaharah Hussein did not allow it and fixed Jul 2 for mention of the case.

"I do not want to lose track of the case," she said.

'I want to fight it'

Also present in both courts were deputy public prosecutor Razali Che Ani and Rayer's second lawyer Abu Bakar Kuga.

Bar Council's representative lawyer Ramesh Raj was watching brief for both the cases.

When met, Rayer ( photo ) said the case has been adjourned five times.

"I want to fight it to prove that I should not be charged and convicted under sedition," said the lawyer.

Meanwhile in another court, Sessions Court judge Ibrahim Osman also fixed Jul 2 for Rayer's second case where he was alleged to have uttered the offensive word in a ceramah in Island Glades.
