Those aligned to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang have been elected to the top two positions of the party's women's wing.

The election last night saw the defeat of incumbent Muslimat leader Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, her deputy Siti Mariah Mahmud and vice-chief Mumtaz Md Nawi.

The new Muslimat leader is Nuridah Mohd Salleh, who edged out Siti Zailah by just 30 votes. Nuridah secured 359 votes.

Her deputy Rosni Adam won by a convincing 414 votes, while the incumbent Siti Mariah secured only 274 votes.

The contest for the vice-chief position saw Salamiah Mohd Noor winning by only 8 votes. She polled 358 votes in total.

Elections director Asmuni Awi announced the results at 12.15am. 705 delegates cast their ballots.

Yesterday also saw forces aligned to Abdul Hadi performing a clean sweep of all the positions contested during the PAS Youth wing elections.
