PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said PAS will continue political cooperation ( tahaluf siyasi ) with Pakatan Rakyat, but only on areas of “mutual agreement”.

He added cooperation will continue as long as it does not conflict with Islam, and warned that PAS would reject anyone who gets in the way of its Islamic agenda, which includes the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.

 

“As we have said time and again, PAS practices political cooperation with Pakatan on matters that were mutually agreed on, such as fighting oppression, corruption, and leakages; transparent governance, [...] as long as it does not conflict with the Quran and Sunnah,” he said in his policy speech at the party’s muktamar today.

 

He added struggles that have a different agenda from PAS and are not in the Pakatan common policy agreement, were to be championed by the individual parties.

 

Hadi's speech comes after the ulama muktamar yesterday approved a motion to cut off ties with DAP.

 

DAP had cut ties with Hadi, whom they complained had not adhered to the common policy framework and had snubbed Pakatan leadership meetings.

 

Small victories

Hadi in his speech, also warned members against being lulled by small victories, only to forget PAS' Islamic struggles.

 

He added PAS would reject those who oppose Islamic law, as Allah had commanded Muslims not be led astray by those who want them to abandon God's commandments.

 

"As such, PAS rejects those who will not give way to the implementation of Islam, or whose Islam is not steadfast on the concept of being fair to all," he said.

 

He also warned against retaliation towards the party's perceived foes.

 

"PAS also rejects those who dream of getting revenge on those who are perceived as foes because the Prophet Muhammad taught us (Muslims) to be the saviour of all mankind," Hadi ( photo ) added.

 

PAS’ struggle to implement hudud in Malaysia has been the main point of contention between it and DAP.

 

DAP has condemned the Islamic penal law as inhumane, but PAS maintains that it is fair.

 

In his speech, Hadi reiterated that what he is seeking to implement now will only involve caning, fines, and imprisonment for Islamic offences.
