The Penang government plans to offer RM100,000 in aid to the victims of the first earthquake on Mount Kinabalu, Sabah which occurred on Friday morning.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he will propose this to the state executive council which meets, usually on Wednesdays, next week.

He expressed sympathy and sadness over the deaths of 13, including 10 school children from Singapore, who were killed by the earthquake which measured 5.9 magnitude on the Richter scale.

"The aid is in support and solidarity with the victims affected by this tragedy," Lim ( photo ) said at a press conference in George Town today, adding DAP representatives in Sabah will manage the fund, and allocate it to the needy.

Today Bernama reported a weak earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter scale, occurred 16km northwest of Ranau, Sabah, making it the fourth tremor to hit the state within a period of four hours from 7.35am today.

   

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department's statement, the quake today occurred at 11.35am.

The department had earlier released reports, stating the first earthquake took place at 7.35am, measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale and located 25km southeast of Kota Belud.

   

The second movement was detected 90km northwest of Labuan with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale at 8.40am.

   

The third tremor was recorded at 9.16am, one kilometre north of Ranau with a magnitude of 2.7 on the Richter scale.
