Najib says Umno ready for talks with PAS
Just as PAS elected its leaders in the recent muktamar, Umno president Najib Abdul Razak has now expressed his party's readiness to commence talks with the Islamist party to discuss any topics for the benefit of Muslims.
According to Utusan Online report, Najib said he is confident that the new PAS leadership will be more positive towards that direction.
"Umno is ready to discuss anything where we can co-operate with PAS for the benefit of ummah (people)," the prime minister was quoted as saying.
However, when asked whether Umno is ready to form a government with PAS, Najib said the co-operation doesn't need to mention it specifically.
He said the new PAS leadership need to be given more time to evaluate Umno's wish for co-operation for the benefit of Muslims.
On the question of PAS delegates who had elected pro-ulama faction in the party polls, Najib said the delegates must have considered issues from all angles, and it must be respected.
"I also see that this election results to be focussed, and as such it must be easier for PAS to discuss any posibility after this," he added.
Coincidentally, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Youth chief Nik Abduh were spotted together with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and several other BN leaders in Ranau yesterday where Muhyiddin was overseeing the earthquake operations, according to Star Online .
