The reluctance of PAS that its members resign from all the posts in Penang state government is seen by DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng as a sign the party is U-turning on its decision to sever ties with DAP.

With this, Lim urged the newly-elected PAS leadership to uphold its principles and dignity by getting its members to resign from all posts in the state in a straightforward manner.

"They may need to make a decision to relinquish the posts. Now, they are trying to U-turn (on the PAS stand on cut ties with DAP)," Lim said, sardonically.

He said PAS should be serious when it comes to implementing its own resolution.

"If they want to cut ties, we accept, since this is their right. But they should complete the formality," Lim ( photo ) said.

He added that PAS should be daring enough to follow up with a decision to relinquish all the 100 posts in Penang.

"Is this a good start of the new leadership?" Lim, who is also the MP for Bagan and Penang chief minister, asked at a press conference at the lobby of Parliament today.

"If the new leadership of PAS wants to lead in a new direction, it should uphold its principles, instead of hanging on to the positions," he said.

No resignation letters thus far

Lim added that thus far the state government has yet to receive any resignation letters from PAS leaders who were appointed as local councillors and in the village security and development committees (JKKK).

Asked about Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s ( photo ) statement that Umno is ready to discuss cooperation with PAS, Lim said would wait for any outcome and changes from the possible Umno-PAS talks.

"This is for PAS to answer. We all know the direction the newly-minted PAS leadership is taking," he said.

"DAP will discuss this with our Selangor counterparts," Lim said, without elaborating, when asked about the possibility of snap state elections in Selangor or the possibility of a hung state assembly.
