Man kills himself immediately after road accident
A man was left baffled after a fellow motorist hit his vehicle and then proceeded to commit suicide near an MRT construction site along Jalan Tunku Abdul Halim, formerly known as Jalan Duta.
The man, only known as Ong, said the driver had knocked into his car and then tried to flee but could not as his vehicle wouldn't start, according to The Star Online .
"After a few moments he gave up, got out of his car and gave me his IC and told me to claim the damage from his insurance," Ong was quoted as saying.
The driver then climbed a nearby MRT scaffolding tower and jumped to his death.
"I did not expect that at all. But he did look depressed," a shocked Ong said.
Police summoned to the scene have ruled out foul play and classified the case as 'sudden death'.
MRT Corp in a statement this afternoon confirmed the incident.
Climbed MRT pier, jumped
"Initial reports from witnesses at the site revealed that at about 11am, a man, believed to be in his late 30s, was driving a car and was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Jalan Duta outside an MRT work site.
"The MRT project traffic team assisted by moving the two cars to the side of the road.
"Barriers were moved to ensure the cars did not obstruct traffic flow. Both drivers then spoke to each other.
"Witness reports claimed that the person then went to one of the MRT piers and climbed up the scaffolding. He subsequently jumped from the scaffolding and died," it said.
MRT Corp said when the incident happened, the area was properly cordoned off and no construction works were going on at that time.
They added the company and all relevant parties will provide police full assistance on the matter.
