Amendments to the Child Act 2011, which will involve more than 70 percent adjustment, including heavier penalties and ways to address crimes against children, will be tabled in October.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rohani Abdul

Karim said the Attorney-General’s Chambers was reviewing the proposed amendments.

She said that after conducting several town hall and engagement sessions, it was found that the public wanted the amendments expedited.

"We want to ensure that the act will be more inclusive," she told reporters after the ministry's monthly gathering in Putrajaya today.

Rohani said the amendments were necessary as many new things had happened and offences such as neglect and abuse of children as well as an online protection should be included.

She said a briefing to the Members of Parliament would be conducted before the proposed amendments were made.
