Anwar, beware the hudud albatross of PAS
YOURSAY ‘Anwar behind bars does not understand the true sentiments of the moderate Muslims and most of the non-Muslims.’
Review 'sever ties' move, Anwar pleads to PAS
Prudent: PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim appears to be out of touch with the impact of political events since his incarceration. He also appears less sharp in his appreciation of the significance of such events. PAS now has the hudud albatross around its neck.
This is more so with the questionable defeat of the progressives in the party with the use of the very undemocratic 'chai' method of block voting. If PAS remains in Pakatan, the hudud albatross will be effectively be around Pakatan's neck as well.
Since Umno has cooperated with PAS, it is perceived to be carrying the hudud albatross as well. Expel PAS from Pakatan now and let it sleep with Umno and their hudud albatross.
Strive now for the Malay middle-ground in the urban and semi-urban areas. They have been fatally (i.e. for Umno and PAS) disillusioned by the incompetence and crass corruption of both PAS and Umno.
The support for PAS now relies on the dwindling ‘kampung’ Malays i.e. those solipsistic Malays who have not yet been devastated by the desecration of their Tabung Haji funds and their reduction to refugee status by the shockingly incompetent handling of the recent floods.
Give emphasis to Johor which is the fulcrum of Umno power. The 'stars' are now in alignment for the historical defeat of Umno-BN, beginning in Johor. It is effectively an urban state.
The royal house there is ready for booting out Umno. All is needed is a credible opposition team for MPs and state representatives including a candidate for MB who is perceived to be wise, intelligent, competent, incorruptible and politically astute. But it must be a team without PAS.
Sabah and Sarawak is ever ready to change - to drop Umno-BN and change sides. They will change sides if Umno-BN is decisively defeated in the peninsula. And don't worry about PAS. It will likely be virtually vanquished after GE14.
FairMind: Anwar, your plea to PAS only shows your lack of confidence in your own party and in your own wife leading the party.
Why can't you let the younger generation in your party like Nurul Izzah and Rafizi Ramli, build PKR to stand on its own principles and strength to win over Malaysians?
Right now your party is weak because it inherited the old Umno members and is using Umno's old ideology of pandering to race. With this, it cannot stand on its own and has to rely on PAS which has the same ideology.
Malaysia Ku: Do you guys in Pakatan sans PAS, know the extent of the feelings of your supporters about the betrayal of PAS?
Let PAS leave the coalition. And use the three years before GE14 to work the rural ground. Otherwise, forget about Putrajaya.
Jiminy Qrikert: Anwar, the day PKR mends ties with PAS is the day I will commit to never ever vote for Pakatan.
Crawling on your knees back to ask PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to work with you again is embarrassing and pathetic. He screwed you, man. Have you no pride and self-respect?
Gunnerrun: Let's quickly officially sever ties with PAS so that we can start preparing for the next GE now rather than later.
And for God's sake, place a candidate wherever PAS is contesting. No way are we having people walking in the streets with no hands, no legs.
P Dev Anand Pillai: Only the Erdogans in PAS were concerned about Anwar and his trials and turbulences since his last release from prison. The ulama faction was not that eager at all.
If this coalition is going to be a viable option for the thinking Malaysian, then Pakatan is better off without PAS.
There will be many new Malay intellectuals, professionals, technocrats, industrialists and educationists, who will join the PKR and DAP to provide the balance in the racial composition of the Pakatan.
The whole world is watching the horrors of IS and the mass exodus of the people of these countries to Europe as refugees of war. For a system to work, religion has got to be kept out of politics.
Np: Anwar behind bars does not understand the true sentiments of the moderate Muslims and most of the non-Muslims. PAS under Hadi and the ulama, is no longer a viable partner in Pakatan. The non-Muslims will abandon Pakatan if PAS is still in it.
DAP is taking such a strong stand because they understand the sentiments of the ground very well. PKR will perish together with PAS if PKR does not cut its ties with PAS.
Many non-Muslims would rather vote for BN to prevent a Taliban-like partner from taking control of Putrajaya.
Lamps: I will never vote PAS as long as Hadi and his ulama control PAS. I would rather vote for Umno. PAS is more dangerous inside Pakatan than outside. Kick PAS out now and work with PasMa.
Ronald: Anwar, if you were to read the comments from the blogs, social media, etc, you would see that 90 percent of the commentators are thoroughly dissatisfied with the manner in which PAS has been conducting itself within the Pakatan coalition.
They give the impression that PKR and DAP needs them more in the coalition than PAS does. They have become conceited and please do not forget they have let Pakatan down in Kedah and Perak, not forgetting Terengganu, the so-called bastion of Hadi.
For the moment, just leave PAS out of the equation. It is in the best interests of Pakatan.
Smer: With all due respect, better to amputate the rotting limb now while there is still time to recover before the next GE. Don't let the gangrene set in and kill the whole body.
Shanandoah: It is incredible to ask PAS to review its decision to cut ties with DAP. If this is Anwar's suggestion then PKR cannot be trusted when it comes to race and religion.
They will ditch DAP to join hands with PAS. This is common understanding between PAS and PKR being of the same race and religion. DAP had been foolish in associating with PAS. Hope they will not make the same mistake again with PKR. Go it alone, DAP.
Ng Kam Loon: It isn’t too late; the progressive members of PAS must take up the challenge to educate and change the mindset of the rural Malays to defeat BN in GE14.
Anonymous_40f4: PAS has on many occasions betrayed Pakatan. They tried to form a partnership with Umno to steal Selangor just after GE13. Then Hadi messed around in the Selangor MB crisis, cooperating with then MB Khalid Ibrahim and not allowing PKR to appoint their choice of MB.
Later Hadi came out with the hudud bill - it is this that broke the camel’s back. The rakyat, especially the non-Muslims, don’t trust PAS anymore. So it’s urgent for Pakatan to stay away from Hadi-controlled PAS, otherwise PKR and DAP are going to be rejected by the rakyat in any elections.
TAG: We want PAS but not the ulama. I will seek the ulama for my religious guidance and consultation. But for these arrogant, so-called righteous people to determine where this country should be heading, not on my life.
Anwar should tell us why we should be accepting PAS in its present state.
BH Yap: There is no need to review ties. The damage is done. PAS can proceed to cut whatever limbs they want.
