Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should stop being a 'big, silly hypocrite' and stop blocking attempts to find answers about ther beleaguered 1MDB, said a DAP lawmaker.
Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua ( photo ) said this in mocking Najib's blog post yesterday where the premier said it would be 'silly' for Putrajaya to take any action based on 'wild allegations or tabloid exposes'.
“Yes it would be silly indeed if the government's actions and prosecutions are based on 'wild allegations' and 'tabloid exposes'.
“But what is more silly is the fact that Najib, who is also finance minister, blocks all attempts to secure facts via the most proper channels, for example Parliament.
“Hence Malaysians have no choice but to judge the prime minister as a big hypocrite who pretends that he wants to be judged on facts but at the same time denies those same facts to the public,” Pua ( photo ) said at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.
He said this after receiving a written parliamentary reply from the finance ministry regarding why it had not given a breakdown of fees and commissions paid to New York-based investment firm Goldman Sachs Group Inc to raise funds for 1MDB,
The ministry's reply only state that based on information provided by 1MDB management, all negotiations and payments to Goldman Sachs followed standard market procedures and were appropriate.
'Like asking the killer'
“Instead of providing impartial facts for the public to judge, the finance ministry asked 1MDB to give their own evaluation as to whether the fees they paid were fair.
“That's like asking the accused or a suspect to judge themselves whether they had murdered someone,” Pua said in response.
