It's curtains for Shafie Apdal, says Zam

A TV station has been ordered to shun coverage of Rural and Regional Development Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal, claims former information minister Zainuddin Maidin.

"There was an instruction to the newsroom to stop covering Shafie. We'll know which TV station (soon)," Zainuddin said on his Twitter account yesterday.

During his tenure as information minister, Zainuddin ( photo ) also oversaw Radio-Television Malaysia (RTM) and national news agency Bernama .

In recent weeks, Shafie has been making public statements that appear somewhat critical of Putrajaya's handling of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) controversy.

At one point, Shafie said it would be wrong to hold the cabinet collectively responsible for 1MDB's wrongdoings, if any, because the ministers have been responsible by asking questions.

One China Press report also said Shafie had uncharacteristically left a cabinet meeting early.

Zainuddin's claim comes after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on June 1 issued an ultimatum to his cabinet to toe the line on 1MDB or quit.
