Police have concluded their investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) for possible  criminal breach of trust (CBT).

 

The investigation papers were submitted to Attorney-General's (AG) Chambers on March 9 for further directive, the Home Ministry said in a parliamentary written reply yesterday.

 

The police investigated the case after former Batu Kawan Umno division deputy chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan ( photo ) lodged a report last December, the ministry said.

 

"The case was classified under Section 409 of the Penal Code (on criminal breach of trust)," the ministry said in reply to a written question from Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara).

 

Pua asked the ministry to reveal the status of the police investigation into the possibility of monet being misappropriated in 1MDB's business transactions involving billions of ringgit.

 

"Has (businessman) Jho Low's statement been taken following leaked documents which showed the money had gone into his bank account?" asked Pua in his question.

 

However, the ministry’s reply did not  address the involvement of the controversial figure.

 

Instead, it only said the Attorney-General's Chambers has ordered the auditor-general to prioritise  the audit work on 1MDB and obtain the relevant documents without any obstruction, to ascertain if there's any abuse and wrongdoing.

The government has to date been coy about Jho Low's involvement with 1MDB.

Last Wednesday, Finance Minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah went on live television on address the 1MDB controversy but skirted the question on Jho Low ( photo ).

"I don't want to speak about Jho Low. I don't want to glamourise him.

"I don't want to speak about Jho Low. I don't want to glamourise him," Husni said.

Jho Low has admitted being an adviser to the Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), the predecessor of 1MDB, but denied receiving any benefits from the company.

He has also denied any further involvement since then, even though his name and that of those linked to him continue to crop up in 1MDB's dealings.

Jho Low has admitted to being a close friend of Najib's stepson Riza Aziz and he had also actively campaigned for BN in Penang during the last general election.
