Home Ministry confirmed today that Joshua Wong's talks and demonstrations during the Hong Kong Umbrella movement caused Malaysia to ban him, fearing he may endanger Malaysia's national security.

As such, Wong was denied entry into Malaysia when he landed at the Penang International Airport on May 26, Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said.

Wan Junaidi said information on Wong showed the Umbrella movement activist was involved in a series of illegal assemblies and talks which instigated people to go against the Chinese government.

Besides that, Malaysia sees the 18-year-old as a threat to Hong Kong police and public order at the various demonstration venues.

"The 'not-to-land action' or 'denied entry' imposed on Wong would not be exempted for any foreigner posing a threat to national security, including Hong Kong police and a few venues (taken over by the Occupy movement and rally)," he said.

In his winding-up speech for the Home Ministry on the Eleventh Malaysia Plan at the Dewan Rakyat, Wan Junaidi said Malaysia does not welcome the likes of Wong who have the intention to threaten national security.

Malaysia will not accept any foreigner into the country when the individual can affect the diplomatic relationship with their country of origin, he added.

Besides Wong, Hong Kong legislator Leung Kok-hung, who is better known by his nickname 'Long Hair' for his trademark silver mane, was deported on May 29 upon his arrival at the KL International Airport.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said Leung was deported because he is a "troublemaker" .
