The account of Tan Keng Liang - Gerakan's youth chief and the party's most prominent social media user - has mysteriously been missing-in-action from Twitter .

This has prompted a flurry of tweets among Twitter users inquiring his cyberspace whereabouts.

Tan, who was once dubbed 'Twitter king' by Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong, said there was nothing insidious in his disappearance from Twitter .

He explained that he has complained to Twitter about several accounts that were set up to impersonate him over the past month.

The latest impersonater operated under the handle '@_tankengliang_'.

Tan said Twitter had received his complaint and told him this morning that the account had been removed.

"But I suspect that they (Twitter) suspended the wrong account. It's (probably) nothing sinister though," he said when contacted.

As of now, the impersonator's account is still up and running.

Tan has again notified Twitter of his predicament and hoped it would be sorted out within 24 hours.

"If I'm permanently suspended (from Twitter), I will move to Facebook," he said.

In light of Tan's disappearance from Twitter, Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming ( photo ) had tweeted, "Should we start a campaign to #BringBackAhLiang to Twitterjaya?"

Tan merely laughed when he was told of the hashtag campaign.

"I say thank you to (Ong Kian Ming). He's the one who introduced me to Twitter five or six years ago," he said.

Ong was once a researcher in Gerakan's think-tank Sedar.
