National laureate A Samad Said is expected to join DAP tomorrow, according to sources.

Malaysiakini learnt that the announcement would be made by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and his father Kit Siang in Gua Musang, Kelantan.

However, DAP leaders are tightlipped on the matter.

Party organising secretary Anthony Loke, who is slated to be present at the event as well, refused to confirm if Samad is joining DAP.

"Wait until the announcement," Loke told Malaysiakini .

Samad, 80, was also the former co-chairperson of electoral reform watchdog Bersih.

Fondly known as Pak Samad, he was a journalist, activist, poet and novelist who won the prestigious South East Asia Writers Award in 1978.

He was bestowed the national laureate title in 1986.

In 2011, Samad played an instrumental role in organising the Bersih rally.

DAP has been actively recruiting Malay personalities to counter its rivals, who brand it as a Chinese chauvinist party.

Malaysiakini is trying to obtain Samad's comments.
