Sultan warns those out to create discord in Johor

The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, today advised the Malaysian Indian community in the state against being easily influenced by provocations by those bent on undermining racial harmony.

"I will not allow anyone from attempting to use religious and racial issues to destroy the harmony enjoyed by the people of Johor," he said at a royal banquet with the Indian community in conjunction with the recent installation of the Sultan of Johor in Johor Bharu tonight.

The Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah; the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, and Yang Mulia Che' Puan Khaleeda Bustamam also attended the banquet.

Ibrahim said religious and racial issues were sensitive and should not be raised by anyone.

The sultan said the Johor government or the Johor sultanate had never marginalised any community and had been fair in fulfilling the needs of all the people.

At the event, the sultan made a personal donation of RM1 million to be used for the welfare of the Indian community, particularly the elderly and orphans.
