'Don't confuse Muslims with Ramadan buffet'

Food operators in the country were today reminded to not confuse the Muslim community with offers and promotion of Ramadan buffet if they do not have the 'halal' certificate.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said action under the Trade Description Act 2011 could be taken against them.

"During Ramadan, there are restaurants, hotels and food premises offering Ramadan buffet.

"I want to remind the operators concerned that under the Trade Description Act, it is an offence for those who do not have the halal certificate, to display (food) items they are selling as halal.

"This includes the context of using the words 'Ramadan Buffet'," he told a media conference after presenting contributions to mosques in the Jerai parliamentary constituency in Yan, Kedah, today.

A total of 43 mosques received RM1,000 each from the federal government to carry out programmes for the coming Ramadan.
