Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali has welcomed the proposal by the Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa) today for the formation of a new political party.

Mohamed Azmin, who is also the Selangor menteri besar, said that in a country which practises the democratic system, anyone has the right to form their own political party.

"We, Pakatan Rakyat (the opposition pact) will see first what are the ideas and policies of Pasma before making any decision," he said when met by reporters at a Selangor state-level function, held in conjunction with the approaching Muslim month of Ramadan, in Shah Alam today.

He added that Pakatan would accept any political party and individual who shared similar ideas in their struggles and policies.

Pasma had suggested the formation of the new political party to maintain the continuity of PAS (in the coalition) following the Islamic party's decision to sever ties with DAP at its 61st annual general assembly held from June 4-6.
