The police will investigate Culture and Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz for his statements on the crown prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed that police reports against Nazri were lodged and it warranted an investigation.

"Yes, we will investigate it under Section 505 of the Penal Code," Khalid said when contacted.

Khalid ( photo ) added that the police would be recording Nazri's statement soon.

Section 505 deals with making statements conducing to public mischief.

A slew of police reports have been filed against Nazri for his warning to Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim not to meddle in politics.

The minister warned that the prince risked being "whacked" and losing respect if he continued to comment on political matters.

This was because the royalty should be above politics, said Nazri who was formerly de facto law minister and minister in charge of parliamentary affairs.

Tunku Ismail had criticised Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for failing to turn up at a dialogue with NGOs on June 5 to discuss the 1MDB controversy.

The crown prince had described Najib as a person with "everything to hide" and therefore did not show up at the dialogue session, which incidentally was titled "Nothing2Hide".
