Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today urged the police to pray for him to stay on as home minister in order to serve them better.

"Pray for me to stay on a little longer at the Home Ministry.

"I know what to do (as home minister)," he told the police during a ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters this afternoon.

Zahid also voiced disappointment over the negative perception towards the police force among the public and vowed to stand with the police.

His remarks follows increased speculation that a cabinet reshuffle is imminent, especially since there are cabinet members who disagree with Putrajaya’s handling of the 1MDB controversy.

During the ceremony, Zahid also announced a RM50,000 government grant to repair broken lifts, toilets and other facililties in the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.

Zahid made the announcement after he saw the building’s lift malfunctioning and moss on its walls.

At least two other ministers, namely Hishammuddin Hussein and Nazri Abdul Aziz, have denied speculations of a cabinet reshuffle after Hari Raya.

However, there have been other hints that a cabinet reshuffle may happen, with MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, who is Transport Minister, lobbying for the deputy education minister post for the party.

The position was traditionally held by MCA but was given to MIC during MCA’s brief hiatus from the government after its poor showing in the last general election.

Liow was quoted in an Oriental Daily report today as saying that he hoped the post can be returned to MCA to help Chinese education.
