Arul hopes for fair hearing as Pua bashes

1MDB president Arul Kanda has reminded DAP lawmaker Tony Pua he is a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which will hear the testimonies of 1MDB top officials.

This follow Pua's highly critical public remarks against 1MDB, including calling Arul a "liar extraordinaire".

Arul said he hoped PAC would give him a fair hearing albeit the fierce criticism by Pua, suggesting that he should not be condemned even before the hearing concludes.

"PAC is a lawful authority and the appropriate forum for questions to be asked and answered," he said in a statement today.

"Notwithstanding the various public statements on 1MDB from Pua, I have every confidence that the honourable members of the committee will allow me a fair opportunity to explain 1MDB's position, to a lawful authority, per the requirements of due process," he added.

Arul said his team is focused on the rationalisation plan for 1MDB as laid out by the Cabinet on May 29.

"Since then, we have successfully repaid an RM3.6 billion loan and will soon issue a request for proposal for equity investors in Bandar Malaysia, in line with the rationalisation plan presented to Cabinet," he said.
