DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has urged the people not to be dejected with the 'death' of Pakatan Rakyat and instead, look forward to a revamped opposition coalition that will bring changes people have been clamouring for.

"There is no reason to be dejected, despondent. We look forward to the future with greater commitment to bring about the change the people want.

"DAP looks forward to a re-alignment of political forces so that the hope of the people will not be destroyed," he said today when asked about DAP's plan.

Lim said that since no single party can rule the country, the opposition needs to form a new coalition of like-minded parties.

"We don't want to have a coalition just to keep position and office, working based on self-interest; it must be based on people's interest," he said.

When asked if Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa) would be a like-minded partner, Lim dodged the question and said he has yet to meet anyone from PasMa ( photo ).

To a question whether Selangor state government would be affected by DAP's decision, Lim said, "It has been considered. (As for) matters pursued, (we) leave it to Selangor's representatives and leaders to comment."

Lim also rebutted PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who said DAP made a hasty unilateral pronouncement of Pakatan’s demise.

PKR finally acknowledged the death of the opposition coalition yesterday.

In her statement, Wan Azizah expressed disappointment at PAS and DAP for the breakup of the seven-year-old alliance.

"PKR expresses regret on the resolution that was accepted without debate at the 61st PAS muktamar and subsequently the DAP central executive committee’s announcement of the end of Pakatan Rakyat that PKR considers hasty.”
