The 1MDB-linked charity, Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia (YR1M), has declined to comment on Wall Street Journal ’s allegations of bankrolling BN’s election campaigns.

“We are sorry, but we are not in a position to comment on the activities of our partners. Perhaps it would be better for you to approach those parties directly with queries such as these.

“Also, we are unable to disclose who our financial contributors are due to requests for confidentiality by them,” a spokesperson for the YR1M told Malaysiakini today.

On Friday last week, Wall Street Journal published an article alleging that 1MDB funds had been used to bankroll the 13th general election.

The report said 1MDB had paid an inflated price of RM2.3 billion for Genting Group’s power assets in October 2012.

The group then made an RM31 million donation to YR1M in the following year, and a month ahead of GE13, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak made an appearance in Penang to announce that YR1M would give RM2 million to two schools.

Malaysiakini has contacted the Prime Minister’s Office, Genting Group and 1MDB on the WSJ report and is still waiting for their responses.
