Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali met with the Selangor Sultan this morning, but no details were provided on whether their meeting was on the Selangor state government’s options post-Pakatan Rakyat.

The meeting took place after both Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Azmin, officiated at the appointments of Selangor syariah judges at Istana Kayangan in Shah Alam.

After their two-hour-long meeting, Azmin was seen escorted out of the sultan's private office, carrying files.

The meeting was confirmed by both a palace officer and an officer of the menteri besar, with both of them saying they were not privy to the details.

Malaysiakini understands that Azmin ( photo ) has yet to have a formal meeting with the sultan on the status of the Selangor government, with the Pakatan coalition being pronounced "dead" by the DAP last week.

However, Azmin last Thursday warned against involving the Selangor palace in the current political crisis, saying he already holds regular meetings with the palace every week to discuss matters related to the state's development.

"We must respect the royal institution.

"I meet the sultan on Tuesday every week, without fail. So there's no problem," he said

Earlier, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said Azmin would soon be seeking an audience with the sultan soon to explain the situation of the state government.

'Meeting to clarify Selangor political situation'

Rafizi said the audience was to enable the menteri besar to clarify the actual political situation to the sultan, besides informing the people in the state of the matter.

Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua also wants to meet Azmin to discuss the options the former Pakatan parties would take after this.

Pua said last Saturday that Selangor DAP was still waiting to have a formal discussion with Azmin, who is also Selangor PKR chief.

"I would like to stress the Selangor DAP meeting presented a few proposals, with a few solutions for discussion with the menteri besar.

"We are also prepared to listen to his proposals," said Pua, who is Petaling Jaya Utara MP.

Currently DAP and PAS hold 15 state assembly seats each while PKR has 13 seats in the 56-seat legislative assembly.

Umno has 12 seats in Selangor while Azmin's predecessor, Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, who was sacked from PKR last year, is the only independent assemblyperson.
