Pua: Shafee’s quit PAC call an attempt to shut me up

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua says Umno-linked lawyer Shafee Abdullah's call for him to quit the Public Accounts Committee is an attempt to shut him up.

"Ah, you can see the increasing attempt to shut me (and a few others up) coming from a mile away.

"Especially when Umno rings up none other than Shafee," Pua said in a Facebook posting today.

Shafee ( photo ) had called for Pua to quit as PAC member for being too critical of 1MDB.

The lawyer said Pua's resignation will ensure the committee's probe on the debt-ridden investment firm is fair and transparent.

PAC deputy chairperson Tan Seng Giaw had also brushed aside Shafee's calls.

"There are seven BN members and five opposition members in the PAC. [...] If a member expresses extreme or unfounded statements, there are other members who give their views.

"Usually there is a consensus for each matter [...] there is a balance," Tan told Malaysiakini .

Pua, who is also DAP’s Petaling Jaya Utara MP, has been an ardent critic of the debt-ridden investment firm, and frequently raises the topic in and out of Parliament.

Previously, 1MDB president Arul Kanda also reminded Pua that he is a member of PAC and expressed hope of getting a fair hearing .

This follow Pua's highly critical public remarks against 1MDB, including calling Arul a "liar extraordinaire".

The Umno-linked lawyer has also received a ticking off from PAC chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamad, who told him not to meddle in the committee's work.
