Jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has filed a qazaf report against senior lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who led the Sodomy II prosecution against him.

Anwar's wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail lodged a report at Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) on Anwar’s behalf today, since he was not allowed to leave the prison.

"This report is made based on Shafee’s accusation that Anwar performed sodomy, without producing four witnesses as demanded by the law," Wan Azizah ( photo ) told reporters in Shah Alam today.

Qazaf is defined as the wrongful accusation of adultery or homosexuality against a Muslim man or woman, without producing four witnesses as required under syariah law.

Wan Azizah was accompanied by several PKR leaders including her daughters, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah and Nurul Iman Anwar, and Sri Muda assemblyperson Shuhaimie Shafiei.

The delegation also handed out a book titled ' Qazaf-Menjawab Fitnah ' (Qazaf-Answering Slanders) published by Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Abim) to journalists for them to understand more about qazaf.

Wan Azizah said the family wanted justice for Anwar, who had been sentenced for five years prison after he lost his appeal at the apex court earlier this year.

"For the sake of upholding justice and to uphold the Syariah law in Selangor, we urge Shafee's remarks to be investigated under Section 36 of Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (Selangor) 1995," she said referring to the lawyer's roadshow and remarks about the case.

At the forum organised by Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin ( photo ) on Feb 17, Shafee went into graphic details describing the foreplay and the sexual acts between Anwar and his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The family's lawyer Fadhlina Sidek said the qazaf report were supposed to be made by Anwar a month ago but was rejected by the prisons department.

"The prisons department suggested that Jais officers go to the prison to meet Anwar but they never came. Then they said we should just come here instead and lodge the report on Anwar's behalf," she said.
