Student claims trial to drink-driving charge
The driver of a Volkswagen Polo car which allegedly crashed into the rear of a police patrol car recently was today charged in the Magistrate’s Court with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Lua Norman, 21, a student of a private college in Kota Damansara, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crashed into a police patrol car at Jalan Pudu heading to the city centre at 8.55am last June 22.
The impact injured two policemen, Nor Alhayari Buyong, 58, and Zainal Abu Bee Din, 50.
Lua’s breath alcohol content then was 111mg/100ml, which was above the permissible level of 35mg/100ml.
Magistrate Zura Syazween Hamizan set bail at RM4,000 in one surety and ordered for Lua’s driving licence to be suspended until the disposal of the case. She set July 27 for mention.
