Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has brushed off calls by his predecessor to either complete the state's water restructuring exercise or quit.

"(Abdul Khalid Ibrahim) couldn't solve (the issue) for six years. I have only been (menteri besar) for nine months," Azmin told reporters at his official residence today.

In a statement today, Khalid ( photo ) accused Azmin of delaying the Selangor's takeover of water assets in the state and for not taking concrete steps to resolve the issue.

He warned that the Klang Valley would face a water crisis unless the exercise was completed.

Khalid was sacked as a PKR member in August last year, after refusing to heed the party's directive to step down as Selangor menteri besar.

He is still the Pelabuhan Klang assemblyperson and remains an Independent member in the state assembly.

No 'new Pakatan' talks

Azmin was speaking to reporters today after chairing the monthly meeting of Selangor PKR leaders, which among other matters, touched on the status of the Selangor government.

"We discussed that and I have asked the PKR leaders to focus on fulfilling the responsibilities the people have given them," he said.

However, Azmin ( photo ) said they did not disucss  the prospects of a new opposition pact, dubbed Pakatan 2.0.

"No, no that was not discussed," he said.

Questions over the tenability of the Selangor government arose after DAP and PAS decided to cut ties with one another, but remain in favour of Azmin as Selangor menteri besar.

PKR does not possess the numbers needed to rule Selangor without the support of both parties.
