Sarawak DAP will not work with PKR as long as PKR is still cooperating with PAS, its chairperson Chong Chieng Jen said.

"It would be awkward if we still cooperate with PKR which is cooperating with PAS, when we have cut ties with PAS," Chong said today at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

PAS and DAP have officially cut ties with each other following the 61st PAS muktamar early last month.

Pakatan Rakyat, the coalition formed by the two parties and PKR, was declared to be dead shortly after.

Chong ( photo ) said if they were to work with PKR again, there would only be one condition.

"The condition is, we can cooperate with PKR so long as they do not cooperate or form a coalition with PAS," he said.

Basically, PKR needs to make a decision between PAS and DAP, because Chong said that they cannot "have the cake and eat it too".

"The ball is now in PKR's court. There is no permanent friends, there is no permanent enemies, but there are permanent principles we have to uphold," he said.

He further insisted that PAS idealogies have no place in Sarawak politics, especially with the new ulama leadership, which shows that it is heading towards a more conservative line of politics.

"This should make it easier for PKR to make its decision," he said.

Donations and volunteers needed

Chong was at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur along with DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua to present the updates on DAP's 'Impian Sarawak' project, which aims to help rural areas in East Malaysia.

Since they started Impian Sarawak in 2013, Pua said they have completed over 40 projects and helped over 900 families.

Their projects involved building gravity water pipes, roads to access rural areas, other infrastructure projects, medical and education camps as well.

They currently have two on-going medical camps in Sri Aman and Betong, where they are expecting 600 patients.

The Impian Sarawak team has conducted 14 education camps and they plan to host 29 more in the future.

They have many other upcoming projects, which they estimate will require up to RM500,000.

To help with the costs, they are now hosting an online fund-raising campaign where they are asking for RM50 donations.

Volunteers to help with the projects are also welcome.
