In what seems to be an ultimatum, Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali warned the federal government that it must honour its promise on the restructuring of the state’s water supply industry before Hari Raya.

Failing which, he would have no other choice but to reveal evidence that the BN government had again committed a U-turn on the matter.

"On July 3, I received a letter from the Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili that the concessionaire - the Concession Companies' Water Assets (CCWA) - will only surrender the water assets to Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB).

"But today the federal government has changed its mind and demanded that the water assets be surrendered together with lands," Azmin ( photo ) told reporters at the Parliament Square today.

He was referring to the 26,000km pipes of water assets in Selangor that became the central issue of the quarrel.

Azmin had also once accused the federal government of seizing the state's sovereignty.

The latest development comes as a surprise as Azmin had barely a week ago given an assurance that the restructuring will be finalised soon.

"We meet on a daily basis. We want the water deal to be concluded, but they change their positions every other day," he said.

To punish people of Selangor

The PKR deputy president stressed that he has evidence on the federal government's U-turn.

"For now, I am not going to disclose the entire discussion (evidence).

"But if they push me to the wall, then I have no choice but to expose it.

"It needs to be reported (to the public) that the federal government are flip-flopping on their stand," he said.

Azmin further alleged that this is the work of Umno and the BN government to punish the people of Selangor.

He said the federal government should take responsibility for any possible water shortage in the state.

The federal government, Selangor government, PAAB and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) had signed a master agreement on September 12, 2014.
