Power fault causes disruption to S'pore MRT

A service disruption hit both the North-South and East-West MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) lines during the rush hour for three hours yesterday following a power fault.

The MRT operator, SMRT Corporation Ltd said the East-West Line had partially resumed service (from Pasir Ris to Joo Koon), while work was ongoing to investigate the cause of the power fault.

“We are proceeding with caution and the trains are moving at slower speed,” it said in a statement.

At 7.15pm yesterday evening, SMRT said a power fault affected trains along the North-South and East-West Lines.

This led to a system-wide disruption along the entire line.

SMRT said passengers were asked to disembark at the nearest platforms and directed towards free bus services that were activated network-wide.
