The prosecution’s appeal against a former Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIA) student’s acquittal for criminal intimidation and illegal possession of a weapon has been set for Sept 30.

Muhdalena Ahmad was charged with running amok with a man armed with a samurai sword outside the Prime Minister’s Department in July 2012.

On June 19 last year, the Putrajaya Sessions Court acquitted Muhdalena of charges under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 7 of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapon Act.

The court found her mentally unstable and ordered her to be detained at Hospital Permai Tampoi, Johor at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Mohd Izhar told reporters that Muhdalena and her lawyer were not in court today when deputy registrar Noor Aini Yusof fixed the date for the appeal to be heard before Justice Kamardin Hashim.
