The Terengganu government has approved an allocation of RM12 million for the building of an international level racing circuit in Gong Badak.
Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said work on the project, at a site near the Gong Badak Sports Complex, was scheduled to start in August.
“We do not want our young people to race illegally on roads which is dangerous. We are building the circuit to produce professional racers,” he said at a ‘sahur’ (morning meal) event with 3,000 motorcycle riders in Kuala Nerang today.
He said the circuit would be built to also meet the needs of the young people for motor sports, like organising sprint test.
With the facility available, more motor sports event could be held and this would enable the young people to show their talent, he added.
