Police will submit investigation papers today to Bukit Aman on the case where Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali had allegedly questioned if IGP Khalid Abu Bakar was "Umno's lackey (barua)".

This was said to have taken place in a ceramah in Permatang Pauh on May 3 when Azmin was giving a speech.

"After the papers reach Bukit Aman, a report will be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action," the police source, who requested anonymity, said.

He added nine people had been questioned in relation to the case, including a journalist.

He also said that Azmin had not been questioned over his speech, which was allegedly insulting to the IGP and civil servants.

"It is up to our counterparts in Bukit Aman to decide if they want to question him," he explained.

On July 5, Penang Police chief Abdul Rahim Hanafi ( photo ) said probe papers involving the PKR deputy chief had been finalised.

Abdul Rahim said Penang police had requested the assistance of D5 (legal and prosecution unit) to question Azmin.

During his speech on the night of May 3 in Kubang Semang, in front of a crowd of 200, Azmin had asked if Khalid was "Umno's barua".

Azmin had asked this after saying that the police had detained about 30 opposition leaders and supporters who attended the anti-GST rally in Kuala Lumpur on May Day.

He had compared the incident to the police's inaction in detaining the 50 who protested against a wooden cross displayed on a church in Petaling Jaya.

Azmin denies insulting Khalid or civil servants, saying he had merely directed a question to Khalid and did not accuse him of being a lackey of Umno.
