There has been a total of 12,383 road accidents recorded, resulting in 203 fatalities, since July 10, according to Bukit Aman.

Works Minister Fadillah Yusof said the The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the Public Works Department (PWD) have been directed to conduct a study to identify  causes that led to an increase in accident rates on federal roads during the

festive season.

Fadillah said that through the study, the government will look at the overall factors leading to accidents so that an integrated action can be taken to inculcate the culture of safe driving

"We want to see what could have caused the accidents, whether it is due to the design or condition of the roads which are not so safe.

"Although we have been improving all the areas where frequent accidents occur, it appears that accident rates are still rising on federal roads," he said, according to Bernama , at his Aidilfitri open house in Samariang, near Kuching.
