Husam: Harapan Baru shares Nik Aziz's vision
Former PAS vice-president Husam Musa has finally broken his silence on attempts to form a splinter party.
In a press release late last night, Husam said he identified with the ideals of the newly formed Gerakan Harapan Baru, but stopped short of committing to the group.
"I believe (the same ideals) are held by our teacher - the late tok guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat," said Husam, who was once Nik Aziz's protégé.
"Unfortunately, I have not fully recovered, so I am unable to join them."
The leader has been reported undergoing treatment for a neurological condition even before the onset of the party muktamar last month.
Husam was among the high profile PAS leaders who were voted out during the leadership elections.
Other leaders who were not aligned to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang have flocked to Harapan Baru.
As Harapan Baru is still in its infancy, Husam said the movement's agenda ought to be to aim to have the present government replaced.
"The new leaders must be highly committed, ensure purity in their ideals and display just ambitions to bring change for all Malaysians," he said.
