Penang Gerakan Youth chief H'ng Chee Wey has lodged a police report against a Facebook account user who "threatened" his life.

The threat to "f*** your mother after I kill you" by one Jeff Koid was sent to H'ng's Facebook fan page inbox, which he found on July 20.

Malaysiakini has contacted the FB user Jeff Koid but has not received any response from him.

H'ng said his last post was about the 1MDB and land bought in Air Itam, Penang, which kick-started the controversy surrounding the Ministry of Finance investment.

He posted a comment saying that luckily the land deal needed the approval of the state government and the residents' interest can be secured.

However, H'ng's last posting was made on July 2, while the death threat was issued on June 19.

"This is not our culture. While we call teachers as soul engineers, politicians are even more important than soul engineers as they are opinion leaders to certain people," H'ng told reporters after lodging a report at the Northeast police headquarters on Jalan Pattani today.

"When Barisan Nasional ruled the state (prior to 2008), nothing like this happened.

"No matter who - opposition or third force - monitors the government, they can voice out their views without being threathened like this," he claimed.

Playing 'cheap politics'

H'ng said issuing such threats was playing "cheap politics" but those involved cannot stop him and his political career with such undemocratic tactics.

He added that as an opposition party in the state, Gerakan needs to be the "check-and-balance".

H'ng urged the individual who posted the death threat to stop his move as it would benefit no one.

"You can kill or stop me but tomorrow, many more people will monitor the government.

"This is the first time in my political career that I have received such a threat. I will be more cautious and hope the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission can act accordingly," he added.
