The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is monitoring several other websites and blogs that are attempting to spread slanders and unfounded information in the country.

Communications and Multimedia Deputy Minister Jailani Johari said the  ministry had also blocked the Sarawak Report website as an initial move to curb the spread of slanders currently.

“The MCMC has blocked Sarawak Report and there are several other websites and blogs that we are monitoring and I cannot disclose them here,” he told reporters when approached after visiting patients at the Hulu Terengganu Hospital and handing over Aidilfitri contributions today.

He said the MCMC also reminded those spreading slanders and false information via the Internet to the extent of causing public confusion that they would not be spared from legal action.

He said the MCMC was given full power to block any website or blog, including users of social media websites who abused the information technology developed by the government previously.
