Kelantan police cripple ring offering fake datukships
Police have crippled a syndicate that promised Kelantan datukships for a certain fee with the arrest of four indivduals, including a woman, yesterday.
Kelantan police chief Mazlan Lazim said the suspects, age between 51 and 63, included a male member of the Kelantan royal family.
He said they were arrested in raids in the state and in Selangor
“They were believed to have deceived victims of between RM60,000 and RM120,000 with promise of a Kelantan datukship,” he told reporters in Kota Baru today.
He said members of the syndicate were believed to have been active since last year and they targetted businessmen.
“They claimed that the Association of the Kelantan Royal Family was given a certain quota to award the datuk title to members of the public and produced documents to convince their victims,” he added.
He said eight people were believed to have fallen prey to the syndicate, promising them a datuk title that did not exist.
