Quickly disband task force, PM and deputy told

In a sarcastic tweet, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his new deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to swiftly disband the special task force on 1MDB.

"Can the PM and his new deputy quickly disband the 1MDB task force? The farce has gone for too long," Zaid said.

He was responding to Najib's decision to replace Muhyiddin Yassin with Zahid in a cabinet reshuffle announced this afternoon.

Zaid also noted how Najib's cousin and Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein could be disappointed that he was not chosen for number two.

"I m not a happy man today; but none unhappier than Hishamuddin Hussein," he tweeted.

The former minister also extended a word of caution to those included in the new cabinet line-up.

"Those who gleefully accept the rewards of loyalty will one day know that they too can be sidelined when their services are no longer needed," he said.

Commenting on the removal of Abdul Gani Patail as attorney-general this morning, Zaid tweeted: "As a Kelantanese I should be happy with the new AG. But I m not."

Gani has been replaced by Mohamed Apandi Ali, a former Federal Court judge who hails from Kelantan.

Though the government announced that Gani's term had expired due to health problems - and the former AG appeared to be in the dark about his removal.

However, Gani declined to comment if this was related to the special task force.

Certain quarters also raised concerns as to whether Gani's axing could have violated the Federal Constitution.

Sharing his thoughts on this, Zaid said: "Today we talk of this and that as being 'unconstitutional' but didn't we abandon the constitution a long time ago?"
