The formation of the new party Harapan Baru may now be moved forward in view of current events, said Federal Territories Harapan Baru chairperson Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli.
Previously, it was reported that the party will be formed on Sept 14, with the first annual general meeting likely on Sept 16.
With the current political turmoil though, Mohd Hatta, formerly a senior leader with PAS, said they might have to form the party sooner, after which it would replace PAS in the new Pakatan Rakyat.
"Looking at the situation now, it would not be a stretch to say the date might be brought forward," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
He was referring to yesterday's events, where the attorney-general was replaced and the cabinet was reshuffled.
Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin , who had been vocal in his criticism of 1MDB, was main casualty of the cabinet reshuffle.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had said that the reshuffle was done to strengthen the cabinet.
