Wan Junaidi: New cabinet well-balanced, strong

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has described the new cabinet lineup announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on Tuesday as well-balanced and strong.

"I believe the Prime Minister in his cabinet reshuffle, wanted to focus on having ministers who were in the same line of thought with him," he told a press conference at the Kuching International Airport today.

"This is actually very important to the prime minister and for the country, because the principle of collective responsibility is important for the administration of any country, especially for countries in the Commonwealth," he said.

He said the cabinet members could not be in disagreement, and if there were any differences of opinion regarding the policies that had been approved by the government, it should be discussed behind closed doors rather than in public.

"So this is the group that was sought by the prime minister (Najib), and secondly I see this mix between the old and new cabinet members as very balanced, and I'm very sure everyone in the cabinet can contribute," said Wan Junaidi.

He said it was the prerogative of the prime minister to reshuffle his cabinet and appoint new members if he wished to do so.

According to Wan Junaidi, his ministry's main challenge was to address the problem of flooding and governing the flora and fauna (treasure) of the country.

Earlier, Wan Junaidi was well-received by his supporters when he and his wife arrived at airport at around 5.30pm.
