PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli today said he will back up his claims that Umno Youth was linked to the Mara scandal with fresh documents.

This was in response to Umno Youth vice chief Khairul Azwan Harun who said he would sue the opposition lawmaker over his allegations.

"I have decided to revive the Mara scandal issue and its links to Umno Youth next week.

"I have documents including proof of payment obtained from Australia that clearly shows Umno Youth leaders are involved in the transactions," he said in a statement today.

He was referring to Mara's overpriced purchases of property in Melbourne, where the difference was then channelled back to Malaysia as kickbacks to certain individuals.

Khairul ( photo ) had on July 6 denied he was involved in the deals and demanded an apology from Rafizi.

However, Rafizi refused to comply, prompting Khairul to announce that he was suing Rafizi.

Rafizi in his statement today said he was prepared to defend himself and had instructed his lawyers to respond accordingly.

"When the evidence is revealed next week, Khairul and (Umno Youth chief) Khairy Jamaluddin will not be able to deny that Umno Youth leaders are involved in the Mara scandal.

"I suggest that Khairul focus on explaining the issue to the rakyat after it is revealed that Umno Youth leaders are involved in the scandal instead of filing suits in court as it will not help Umno Youth's image," he said.
