Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today sang praises of Abdul Hadi Awang over what he termed as the PAS president's ability to properly evaluate the 1MDB-related allegations against him.
Najib said a Muslim should hold to the principle that the truth must first be established before accusing someone of wrongdoing.
"As men of religion, we must hold to the principle of seeking the truth. We must hold to the principle that someone is innocent until proven guilty.
"Which is why I would like to praise the PAS president. Even though we are rivals, he has said no one is guilty without proof.
"This was what the PAS president said. Even he can make the evaluation," said Najib in a speech at Putrajaya today.
The PAS president prior to this had said that any allegation against Najib must have a basis and need witnesses.
Abdul Hadi ( photo ) said Najib was an ordinary human being and not an angel and hence witnesses are needed to prove the allegation.
Najib, who is also Umno president, questioned certain quarters for criticising him on the 1MDB issue.
“What is becoming of our people as they fan such false claims on me. The opposition, not all, also can evaluate,” Najib said.
Besides Abdul Hadi, PAS spiritual advisor Haron Din described The Wall Street Journal report of US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) 1MDB funds flowing out and into Najib's personal accounts as illogical.
