Umno is weak today because of party members who like to stir trouble within the party and spread rumours, said secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

“Umno is weak today, why? Because its members are weak.

“Over 30 percent of its members like to pit one against another, spread lies and they are easily influenced by stories from the opposition.

“That is Umno’s problem,” he said at the Lembah Pantai Umno annual general meeting (AGM) in Kuala Lumpur today.

However, he did not name any figure in particular.

This weekend’s series of Umno divisional annual general meetings (AGM) has seen leaders rallying around party president Najib Razak in the face of the 1MDB scandal.

Yesterday, booklets were distributed blaming former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad for spreading “opposition lies” about debt-stricken 1MDB’s scandal.

Elsewhere, sacked DPM Muhyiddin Yassin has also been berated for not supporting his party chief.

Opposition's fault

Tengku Adnan continued blaming the opposition blaming for deliberately stirring trouble, particularly within Umno.

 

“Today we see the opposition taking the opportunity to weaken Umno until our top leaders are in chaos and being vilified, and we Umno members are also influenced (by their allegations),” he said.

 

“When MH17 was shot down, when MH370 went missing, they all issued statements in the social media, everyone wanted to be an aviations expert, engineering expert and so on…,” he lamented.

 

He called on Umno members to close ranks, as Umno’s slogan was ‘unity’.

 

“Because Umno is not only the umbrella of the Malays, but also for the other races like the Chinese, Indians, Kadazan and Iban.”
