Opposition party DAP plans to move its headquarters to "within 10km of Parliament House", to be housed in a new four-storey building.

The multi-purpose building, to be named Wisma DAP, will be inaugurated in three years. Its construction will cost RM5 million.

Project co-ordinator Ronnie Liu told malaysiakini that four locations are being considered for the building, but that the party leadership has yet to make a final decision.

Liu, who is also DAP International Secretary, said a nationwide fund-rasing campaign will kick off on Nov 11, to raise money for the project.

"We hope to get enough money through donations from our leaders, members and supporters,"he said, adding that a 30-members committee would oversee the project.

He said the current DAP headquarters in a double-storey building in Petaling Jaya does not have sufficient space for the party's activities.

There will be facilities for activities and training in the new headquarters, together with space for a secretariat and offices for party leaders, a hall, and a section for meetings with voters and the public.

"The new building is designed to as a modern and user-friendly structure. It will house a library, resource centre and cafeteria," Liu said.

The current premises may be renovated while the new headquarters is under construction.
