'MACC donation finding a peace offering to cops?'

Was the MACC move to declare the RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's private bank accounts as mere 'donations' a peace offering after the commission came under 'attack' from the police?

This was the question posed by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang in noting that several MACC investigators looking into the deposits into Najib's bank accounts were arrested by police on grounds of leaking confidential government information.

In a statement yesterday, the MACC also cleared 1MDB of channelling any funds to Najib.

"Was MACC’s unsolicited statement yesterday clearing 1MDB as the source of the RM2.6 billion a 'peace offering' to end the attacks on MACC which has seen the harassment, interrogation and arrest of top MACC officials by the police?" Lim ( photo ) asked in a statement today.

The MACC, which has come under intense pressure, today held prayers asking for divine direction.

The MACC appears to have pursued the case on its own after the special task force became paralysed with the sacking of attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail last Tuesday.

The special task force comprises the police, MACC and Bank Negara and is coordinated by the Attorney-General's Chambers.

Johor MB praised

Lim also praised Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin who said Umno cannot remain silent under the guise of 'loyalty' in the face of corruption.

Khaled's son Akmal Saufi had also raised concerns about the RM2.6 billion in a Facebook posting today.

"All Malaysians must stand solidly by Khaled in his stand that Umno cannot stay silent when corruption becomes a culture and trust is betrayed," said Lim, who is also Johor's Gelang Patah MP.
